CLASSES WE OFFER

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) a martial art and combat sport that focuses on wrestling, especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position from which to force your opponent to submit.

The system is based on the idea of soft overcoming the hard. In other words the smaller, weaker person uses leverage and proper technique to defend himself or herself against a bigger, stronger attacker. BJJ can be trained for self-defence, sport wrestling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition.

In the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class you will learn how to takedown and throw an opponent. You will also learn how to dominate and control an opponent positionally as well as all the escapes to these positions. You will then learn how to submit your opponent.

You will learn:

  • how to throw and takedown an opponent to the ground from the clinch
  • how to prevent an opponent from taking you to the ground
  • how to get a dominant position when on the ground
  • how to control the opponent from dominant positions on the ground
  • how to escape bad positions and transition to better positions
  • how to apply submissions such as chokes, arm locks, shoulder locks, leg locks and much more

If you want to learn a martial art that will give you total body and core strength and flexibility and an approach to self defence that doesn’t involve being kicked or punched then you want Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

ZEN DO KAI – FREESTYLE KARATE

Ages 12 and above

Modern Skills – Traditional Values.

Zen Do Kai is a Martial Arts System designed over four decades ago; founded in 1970 when Bob Jones opened his first martial arts club in Elizabeth St., Melbourne.

Zen Do Kai has never had a closed attitude, nor is it a closed system. Zen Do Kai is a totally open system, and as such has to be open to influences and ideas from all around the world. Using modern self defence principles but keeping with traditional martial arts values, we seek to improve the system, improve ourselves and to be aware of creating the opportunities for the individuals within our organisation to achieve their personal best. We are proud, not only of our system, but of the many thousands of students that have developed from it. Train in Zen Do Kai and we are sure you will find the experience fulfilling, exciting and most of all …. enjoyable.

Our syllabus not only includes what can be described as Karate techniques and Karate Forms (or Kata), but also the principles and practices of realistic personal defence strategies, close quarter combat (cqc), locks, holds and restraints along with escapes, throws and falls, vital point striking, grappling, as well as traditional weaponry like swords and staff at higher levels. Although from the outside, Zen Do Kai may seem to be simply a mix or blend of various fighting traditions such as Muay Thai, Karate and Jiu Jitsu to make a new “style”, Zen Do Kai is definitely much more than merely the sum of its parts. Zen Do Kai is no longer the art OF other arts, it is the art OF ALL arts – an art unto itself, the infinity of Martial Arts with limitless potential for anyone who makes it a part of their life. For us, Zen Do Kai translates as

“THE BEST OF EVERYTHING IN PROGRESSION”

If you want a lifelong pursuit that will develop your health and fitness while building your self confidence and teaching you how to protect yourself then you want Zen Do Kai.
